"Chance" Kawasaki ZX-14
Hyperbike Performance Centers Land Speed Racing Segment headed to Goliad Texas to race the Texas Mile: www.Texasmile.net the crew intended to surpass their 2007 efforts along with rebounding from a poor outing in the spring of 2008, they set their goals high questing for 220MPH with their multi-purpose black-yellow ZX-14 "Chance".
As a side note in the history of HPC’s brand new racing program a mark in history was made during the fall event in 2007. Gregory Williams became the first Afro-American in the history of Land Speed Racing to surpass the infamous 200 MPH mark as reported in Two Wheel Tuner Magazine. Greg did so with an elapse standing mile speed of: 205.4 MPH. In March of 2008 the team tried to breach their mark but could not do so based on several mechanical/electrical issues with the then very popular "Inferno" ZX-14. An entire make-over was in order and HPC did all the work in house this time around to their standards.
Over the last few months HPC came up with a winning combination of power, durability and an all new look to their racing ZX-14. The R&D they endured paid off. Their ZX-14 was not only stronger it was smarter using some of the most advanced electronics on the market coupled with some of their own in house ram air, oiling and fueling upgrades. HPC also came up with major modifications to increase the compression production of their ZX-14 motor and an avenue to utilize more nitrous power safely.
Other improvements came in the chassis department. Making power was never an issue getting it to the ground was. Suspension work normally takes years to master and their new suspension set-up designed by Greg Williams works outstanding. Greg came up with a unique combination which not only works with light riders but 200 plus guys as well. Using input from some of the best riders in country and advice from other racers made this an easy process, feedback coupled with testing and race-day application at its finest.
The question to be answered was? With all these changes would the team go faster or slower? Well based on their recent results at the Texas Mile HPC certainly went faster. HPC eclipse their numbers in Texas by 8.3 mph. For those that have ventured over the infamous 200 mark getting those gains in a year without a turbo is not easy stuff. HPC placed second in the NOS shoot-out and second in class over all missing first place by 2 MPH. HPC did not use a lightweight jockey to get the job done.
Some very brief testing with "Chance" at the drag strip yielded some positive results. With only three full test passes at 61" the HPC powered ZX-14 elapsed the 1/4 mile in 8.38@174.77. HPC will conclude this race season with a showing at the Mi-Rock "True Street" season finale. HPC qualified 9th. . at the last race with a 8.50@164. This will also be the last outing for "Chance" HPC’s ZX-14 multi-purpose bike as an all new "race only" project will be built for 2009.
